The story begins in 1979, as Kathy dreams of becoming a music journalist after being told she is too ugly to be an actress. Kathy excitedly prepares to go to a secret gig at a pub, but suffers a setback when her tape recorder gets smashed. Meanwhile, Mary and Larry mark their three-week anniversary in slightly inappropriate fashion, and Pretty Nun and Angry Nun argue about actresses. Kath and Mary end up hitching a ride with an ice cream van man on their way to a haunted house. Angry Nun ruins Pretty Nun's excitement about a trip.
