The Biggest Loser: Families is the sixth season of the NBC reality television series The Biggest Loser. The sixth season premiered on September 16, 2008, featuring Alison Sweeney as the host and Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels as the contestants' trainers. The cast was revealed on August 29, 2008. Eight duos began the challenge, adding up to a total of 16 contestants. From Week 1 to Week 5, the Green, Red, Orange & Brown Teams trained with Bob, while the Purple, Gray, Yellow & Pink Teams trained with Jillian. In Week 5, these "Family Teams" were disbanded and the contestants were split into the Blue Team and the Black Team. In week 8, the teams were split again and the competition went into individuals. Amy Cremen was originally under Jillian's training, but in week 5, was placed in and eliminated under Bob's training. Phillip Parham started the competition under Bob's training but was eliminated under Jillian's training. Michelle Aguilar was named the Biggest Loser on December 16, 2008, after losing 110 pounds. She won $250,000. Heba was named the Biggest Loser of the eliminated contestants, and won $100,000. However, if Heba were not eliminated during the finale by America's vote she would've become the Biggest Loser.

1. Husband-Wife and Parent-Child Teams

Four husband-and-wife teams and four parent-child teams are chosen to try and lose weight through diet and exercise as they compete for a grand prize of $250,000; the eight teams compete in their first challenge, where the winner receives immunity.

2. Chef Rocco DiSpirito

September 23rd, 20081 hr 30 min

The team that wins the sprint and slide challenge gets a phone call home; chef Rocco DiSpirito teaches the contestants to shop for and make healthy and affordable meals; one team is eliminated.

3. Grand Canyon

September 30th, 20081 hr 30 min

The contestants go on a trip to the Grand Canyon; a temptation challenge provides the winning team with a more-luxurious trip; the contestants must exercise without a gym or trainers; a medical condition threatens to sideline a contestant.

4. Toughest Challenge Yet

October 7th, 20081 hr 30 min

While one team's members go home to their loved ones, another team spends 24 hours with a trainer; contestants face a competition that tests their endurance as never before; a group of contestants faces the wrath of the trainer.

5. Surprising Weigh-In

October 8th, 20081 hr 30 min

Contestants try to convince a trainer that they are committed to their workouts; a contestant talks with a trainer about relationship issues with a family member; one team must send a family member home.

6. Longest Challenge Ever

October 14th, 20081 hr 30 min

The contestants are literally kept in the dark during a wild baked goods temptation; the contestants compete in the longest challenge in ``Biggest Loser'' history; a contestant tries to decide whether to stay at the ranch or go home.

7. Unusual Workouts

October 21st, 20081 hr 30 min

The teams are put through the most unusual workouts yet and receives their six week reports by Dr. Huizenga. Then, a challenge on a balance beam rewards the winner with something special from home.

8. Record-Breaking Weigh-In

October 28th, 20081 hr 30 min

This week, contestants put their food knowledge to the test during a calorie quiz that will give the winning team a dramatic advantage in the challenge. Later, emotions run high when one contestant confronts another on the opposing team before the challenge, which leaves the players soaring to new heights. Then one contestant stuns everyone with a record-breaking weigh-in before an elimination round sends another contestant home.

9. Week of Surprises

November 11th, 20081 hr 30 min

It's a week of surprises for "The Biggest Losers," and the first is the news from host Alison Sweeney that they'll start competing as individuals now instead of as teams. Then comes the surprise return of all the eliminated contestants, and the revelation that only one gets to return to the game - and that decision won't be determined by weight loss. Then the contestants get a surprise visit from last season's "Biggest Loser" - Alison Vincent! Later, two contestants clash in a big way before the challenge, in which contestants have to stay one step ahead of the competition - literally. And after the weigh-in, the players get their last surprise - a twist in how this week's elimination will go down.

10. '80s Week

November 18th, 20081 hr 30 min

This week, contestants travel back in time to the 1980s, dressing the part and doing 80s style workouts and participating in a special 80s-themed challenge. Meanwhile, two players aren't speaking to each other, causing friction in the house and with one team in particular. Then an emotional elimination round sends another contestant home.

11. Thanksgiving week

November 25th, 20081 hr 30 min

It's Thanksgiving week at the Biggest Loser ranch, and contestants will be celebrating with turkey, football and very special guests! First, NFL Super Bowl MVPs Jerry Rice and Steve Young stop by to put the contestants through NFL-style drills. Then celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito helps the contestants make a healthy version of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Later, the contestants are really thankful when they receive special videos from home.

12. Makeover Episode

December 2nd, 20081 hr 30 min

It's one of the most eagerly-anticipated events of every Biggest Loser season - the makeover episode! This season, the remaining five contestants are whisked away to New York City for amazing makeovers that will show how far they've really come in their weight-loss journeys. After getting new hairstyles at a top salon, the contestants are off to Macy's, where Project Runway winner Christian Siriano helps them pick out new outfits to show off their skinnier new figures. Later, after their transformations are complete, the made-over contestants are revealed on the Tyra Banks Show, unaware that their loved ones are waiting to surprise them! After enjoying a day in New York with their family members, they head back to the Biggest Loser ranch. There, the contestants are tested with a wild challenge that becomes a huge victory for one player struggling to overcome her fears.

13. Final Four

December 9th, 20081 hr 30 min

It's the last episode before the season finale, and time for the final four contestants to reflect on their weight loss journeys and the amazing progress they've made. They'll try on their former "big" clothes and watch highlight videos with their trainers showing just how far they've come. Then, in their final challenge of the season, the contestants will have to carry all the weight they have lost as they race around a track, shedding one week's weight loss at each pit stop until they cross the finish line. Later, at the final weigh-in, two players fall below the yellow line, and then make their heartfelt pleas to viewers, as America will once again decide which of the two will become the third finalist at the season finale.

14. Finale!

December 16th, 20081 hr 30 min

In this season six finale, all eight teams of families will return for a special reunion and a chance to weigh in one last time and show America how much weight they've lost since the beginning of their weight-loss journeys. The transformations will be profound, not just for the finalists, but also for the eliminated contestants who all continued to lose weight after they left the "Biggest Loser" ranch and returned home. America's vote for the third finalist will also be revealed in the first part of the live finale, and then the eliminated player will weigh in with the other 12 eliminated contestants to compete for the $100,000 "at home" prize. Then it's the moment viewers have been waiting for, when one of the three finalists will be named this season's "Biggest Loser" and win the coveted grand prize of $250,000.
