1. Derbyshire
Today he's in the landlocked county of Derbyshire and has the 1935 edition with him. In the heart of the countryside, he learns about the Kinder Scout uprising that led to the freedom to roam the Derbyshire Dales. He visits an animal sanctuary and gets to feed the otters and calls in at the historic towns of Buxton and Bakewell and turns his hand to cooking one of their famous puddings.
2. Durham
Tonight, the 1937 guide is helping him explore county Durham. Richard investigates the county's history of coal and goes down the last surviving pit in Durham. He blasts out a tune on the organ in the city's ancient Cathedral and visits the 200 acre deer park at Raby Castle in Teesdale. However driving in the rain and on unknown roads does bring its tribulations!
3. Dorset
With his 1936 guide on board, Richard is exploring the beautiful county of Dorset. His first stop off is to the coast at Studland where there's a surprising encounter with a local. Then it's off to the Jurassic coast with its impressive 180 million year geological history. Richard calls in to the home of Thomas Hardy, before being schooled in the Dorset dialect.
4. Essex
Richard stops at Colchester, to see an archaeological dig on the High street, and travels to Mersea Island taking a boat out fishing for oysters. He visits the 'new town' of Harlow and the Jacobean palace Audley End in Saffron Walden.
5. Devon
In a vintage Daimler Richard goes to Devon. He enjoys a bird's eye view of Torquay, visits the former home of famous crime novelist Agatha Christie and explores Dartmoor meeting one of Devon's oldest families, the Fulfords.
6. Oxfordshire
Richard Wilson tours Oxfordshire, taking in Blenheim Palace, Henley, and Hampton.
