1. Switzerland: Furka - Zermatt - Matterhorn
This journey starts with a steam locomotive on the Furkaberg massif, bringing back times gone by. And Dutch volunteers are also active on the Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke. Then we board the world famous Glacier Express. The train with the famous panoramic carriages offers a beautiful view of the Swiss mountain world. We drive past the Aletsch Glacier, the largest ice mass in the Alps, measuring no less than 23 kilometers in length. The ride with the Glacier Express ends in Zermatt, known for the most iconic mountain in Switzerland: the Matterhorn. In Zermatt we take a cog railway to the Gornergrat. The journey goes through dense forests and alpine meadows to a spectacular altitude of 3089 meters. Along the way, the traveler is treated to beautiful views. Once at the top, the traveler finds himself surrounded by no fewer than 29 peaks of more than 4,000 meters high, with of course a view of the King of the Mountains: the Matterhorn.
2. France: Annecy – Saint-Gervais-les-Bains - Bellevue
We cross the Savoie Mont Blanc area by rail. We travel on a small cog railway through a snow-covered mountain world and dense coniferous forests towards the highest mountain in Europe: Mont Blanc. The journey starts in the lively provincial town of Annecy. A beautiful old town with picturesque shops and medieval streets. We board the train to the east, towards the Mont Blanc massif. Then we transfer to the Tramway du Mont-Blanc in St.-Gervais-les-Bains. We ride this small cog railway to the elevated station of Bellevue. Mont Blanc had long been nicknamed Montagne Maudite, the cursed mountain. For centuries these giants lay here in absolute silence because the mountain world was seen as very dangerous. The arrival of the train has opened up a whole new world for many. People now flock to these slopes again and again to enjoy the magic of the beautiful mountain world around Mont Blanc.
