Season 1 Plot
Jang-hyun is living without purpose or desire. He's a cold-hearted man who loves no one until he gets introduced to love after meeting Gil-chae. She is charming and admired by all, but her first love, Yeon-jun, is already engaged to her best friend, Eun-ae. Yeon-jun, a Sungkyunkwan student, struggles with his feelings for Gil-chae but cannot break off his engagement due to tradition. Eun-ae does not doubt nor hate the two. As Jang-hyun becomes entangled in this unusual love triangle, Gil-chae, who has only loved Yeon-jun, is confused about her own feelings. The relationship between these four gets put into an even bigger twist at the breakout of war.

1. Episode 1
A stranger enters Neunggun-ri, a peaceful village where Gil-chae lives, and turns the village upside down.
2. Episode 2
Gil-chae gets help from Jang-hyun to learn about people in Hanyang, and he takes her to interesting places.
3. Episode 3
Yeon-jun and the scholars volunteer to fight for the country, while Jang-hyun plans to evacuate.
4. Episode 4
When Gil-сhae and Eun-фe are about to flee from their village, the intruders arrive at Neunggun-ri.
5. Episode 5
Jang-hyun helps Yeon-jun as he gets injured. Meanwhile, the Crown Prince wants to ask Jang-hyun for help.
6. Episode 6
Since the King of Joseon does not come out from the fortress, Khan conquers Ganghwa Island.
7. Episode 7
Yeon-jun is about to propose to Eun-ae. Yeon-jun and Gil-chae have a private chat for the last time.
8. Episode 8
Jang-hyun and his friends leave Joseon with the Crown Prince and meet Yong Gol-dae in Simyang.
9. Episode 9
Jang-hyun captures fleeing prisoners in Simyang, while Gil-chae runs a business to make a living.
10. Episode 10
Jang-hyun returns to Joseon and finds out Gil-chae is engaged to another man.
11. Episode 11
While capturing fleeing prisoners from Joseon, Jang-hyun meets familiar people.
12. Episode 12
Gil-chae and Jong-jong get captured and dragged to Qing while trying to help Da-jim.
13. Episode 13
Won-moo travels to Simyang to bring Gil-chae back. Jang-hyun meets the princess of the Qing in Simyang.
14. Episode 14
Jang Hyun meets Gil-chae at the slave market in Simyang and saves her from the merchant.
15. Episode 15
Gil-chae stays in Simyang until Jang-hyun gets better, but Ryang-eum wants her gone as soon as possible.
16. Episode 16
Gil-chae wants to stay in Simyang, but Jang-hyun sends her back to Joseon for her safety.
17. Episode 17
Jang-hyun returns to Joseon with the Crown Prince, and the King is afraid his son will take over his place.
18. Episode 18
The King of Joseon banned the Crown Prince from bringing back the captives to Joseon.
19. Episode 19
Gil-chae secretly takes Jang-hyun home, and the eunuchs from the palace are searching everywhere to find him.
20. Episode 20
Jang-hyun finds out the Crown Prince left a letter for him. Gak-hwa looks for Jang-hyun at Gil-chae's house.
21. Episode 21
As His Majesty's men hunt down the captives on the run, Jang-hyun sends Gil-chae away and turns to face them.
