Match of the Day returns for a new season presenting tonight FA Charity Shield: FA Cup Winners Chelsea v Football League Champions Everton BBCtv's Saturday-night soccer action programme returns with exclusive colour coverage of the 33rd meeting of the previous season's League champions and FA Cup winners. Everton have played in this popular curtain-raiser to the season on five occasions - winning it in 1928, 1932, and 1963. Chelsea, with their new £100,000 close-season signing, Keith Weller from Millwall, hope to repeat their 1955 championship triumph when they beat Newcastle three-nil.

Alan Hardaker, Secretary of the Football League, presents the first winning cheque in the new national Ford Sporting League. Tonight the winning 1-2-3 selection of the September 'Goal of the Month' competition will be shown, and the first £2,500 cheque will be handed to the club topping the Ford Sporting League at the end of September.
