Season 5 Plot
Last of the Summer Wine's fifth series originally aired on BBC1 between 18 September and 30 October 1979. All episodes from this series were written by Roy Clarke and produced and directed by Sydney Lotterby. The fifth series was something of a departure; it was the first to include two-part episodes and introduced a small number of new characters such as Compo's oft-mentioned but never seen nephew and was also notable for an increase in the more physical comedy for which the programme would become more well-known latterly. The fifth series was released on DVD in region 2 as a combined box set with series 6 on 5 March 2007.

1. Full Steam Behind
Foggy takes Compo and Clegg on a nostalgic trip to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.
2. The Flag And Its Snag
Foggy has a vision to put a flag in a prominent place on the great British landscape - but first he needs a flag and a flagpole.
3. The Flag And Further Snags
Foggy collects his flag and achieves his vision. His dream is achieved.
4. Deep In The Heart Of Yorkshire
When Sid and Wally are seen disappearing into the woods, their wives wonder what they're up to.
5. Earnshaw Strikes Again
Anyone criticising Yorkshire is rousing old Yorkshire ghosts - Clegg for one is very superstitious, so he doesn't want to wake up old ghosts.
6. Here We Go Into The Wild Blue Yonder
Compo contemplates the sport of hang-gliding. Nora gets Wally to take her out for a meal.
7. Here We Go Again Into The Wild Blue Yonder
Compo gets his hang-glider-courtesy of Wally Batty.
