Why Some 'The Walking Dead' Fans Are Nervous for Michonne in Season 8
Everyone wants "The Walking Dead" called her first, Marvel!
There's no need for TWD fans to panic yet. Yes, Deadline just reported that Danai Gurira will be starring in "Avengers: Infinity War," which is now filming at the same time that she's taping her role as Michonne in "The Walking Dead" Season 8. But Gurira's part in "Infinity War" is probably relatively small, reprising her role as Okoye, one of the Wakanda warriors who'll first be seen opposite Chadwick Boseman in "Black Panther." There are almost a million (slight exaggeration but not much) characters in Marvel's third "Avengers" movie, so it may not take her that long to film scenes.
There's also this point, via ComicBook:
"The Walking Dead films in Senoia, Georgia, for the most part -- with some shoots taking place at Tyler Perry Studios closer to Atlanta. Avengers: Infinity War is currently coming together at Pinewood Studios, located in Fayetteville, Georgia. Pinewood Studios and Raleigh Studios (home of The Walking Dead) are a 15 minute drive from one another if the driver [drives] at a slow Sunday cruise pace.
In other words: Gurira can film both Avengers: Infinity War and The Walking Dead Season 8. We have no reason to believe Gurira is exiting the AMC series in favor of the Marvel Cinematic Universe."
So don't worry. Or do worry, but just about heat exhaustion for so many actors to be doing major stunt scenes in the Georgia summer heat.
It doesn't mean Michonne is in danger. Then again, it doesn't mean she's safe, and some fans were already a little worried before this "Avengers" news came out, after that major twist in the comic book storyline. But even if the show follows that storyline and gives it to Michonne, it wouldn't happen for a while. Or so we hope. Rick Grimes can't lose another love interest or he'll definitely lose his mind for good.
"The Walking Dead" Season 8 premieres October on AMC.
