The 2016 South Korean film 'Train to Busan,' directed by Yeon Sang-ho, was a huge hit in its home country. After premiering at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, the film was widely acclaimed by both mainstream film critics and horror aficianadoes alike.

Since the film only ever received a modest release in the US, it's understandable that you may have slept on this Korean-language zombie thriller. But trust us when we say that now is the time to seek it out, so that you're ready for the sequel.

The 2016 film brought some new life into the zombie genre, primarily by placing most of the action on a high-speed train. And although social commentary in zombie movies isn't new (George Romero's work casts a long shadow), 'Train to Busan' still found some new points to make, and frankly some of those points will particularly resonate in 2020.

Now director Yeon Sang-ho brings us the upcoming sequel, called 'Peninsula.' The new film is set four years after the events of 'Train to Busan,' and the trailer gives us a few hints about we're going to see, including a heist and a patchwork of survivors in an environment reminiscent of 'Escape from New York.' And of course, more zombies.

Jung-seok, a soldier who previously escaped the diseased wasteland, relives the horror when assigned to a covert operation with two simple objectives: retrieve and survive. When his team unexpectedly stumbles upon survivors, their lives will depend on whether the best—or worst—of human nature prevails in the direst of circumstances.

There's not an official date for the release yet, but expect 'Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula' to be available before the end of 2020.
