'Walking Dead' Alum Laurie Holden Joins 'The Americans' for Season 5
Another "Walking Dead" alum is returning to TV screens, with Laurie Holden set to join the season five cast of FX Cold War drama "The Americans."
TVLine has the scoop that Holden will appear next year as Renee, meant to be a love interest for FBI agent and recent divorcee Stan (Noah Emmerich). According to the site, Renee is "a new woman in town who captures the interest of Stan when they meet at the gym," and "easily keeps up with the guys watching sports, drinking beer, and fly fishing."
She sounds like the perfect woman, though TVLine's report indicates there may be something deeper going on with the woman (and in a series all about spies and espionage, we wouldn't put it past Renee to have some secrets -- or perhaps some ulterior motives -- up her sleeve). It's unclear how many episodes Holden will appear in, though her role is described as recurring.
This is actually the second time that Holden and Emmerich will work together on the small screen: The pair previously collaborated when Emmerich appeared in an arc at the end of season one of "The Walking Dead," playing Dr. Edwin Jenner, a scientist at the CDC. Jenner welcomes Rick and his gang -- including Holden's character, Andrea -- into the CDC for some much-needed meals and showers, though he eventually reveals he's about to blow the place up in order to prevent the center's various pathogen samples from escaping and causing further destruction to the walker-riddled world (and also to put the desperate scientist out of his misery). Right now, "The Americans" is focusing on the escalating tensions between the U.S. and Russia, and the U.S. developing chemical weapons to use against the Soviets; could Holden's casting be a wink to her link to Emmerich's "TWD" character?
Fans will have to wait to find out. Season five of "The Americans" is in production now; it's slated to premiere on FX sometime early next year.
