'Veronia Mars' Hulu Revival Adds Jason Dohring, More Cast Members
LoVe isn't dead!
Following last week's announcement that Hulu had ordered a new season of "Veronica Mars," creator Rob Thomas revealed on Twitter that four more original cast members from the former UPN/CW series would be reprising their roles.
Of course, we already knew star Kristen Bell would be headlining as the title character. But now, Veronica/Logan shippers can breathe a sign of relief, since Jason Dohring will definitely be back as Veronica's on-again-off-again boyfriend.
Also returning are: Percy Daggs III (Wallace Fennel), Francis Capra (Weevil) and David Starzyk (Richard Casablancas). More casting announcements are forthcoming.
Three of the announced cast members are no surprise, since Dohring, Daggs, and Capra all starred in the 2014 Kickstarter-funded movie. Their characters also appeared in the two follow-up novels co-authored by Thomas, "A Thousand-Dollar Tan Line" and "Mr. Kiss and Tell," which are considered mostly canon.
However, Starzyk hasn't been seen as disgraced real estate mogul Richard Casablancas since the third season of the series in 2007. He returned to Neptune after being on the run from law enforcement, in an attempt to mend his relationship with son Dick (Ryan Hansen).
The fourth season (or miniseries) will be set in Neptune five years after the events of the movie. Spring breakers are getting murdered in town, thereby decimating the seaside town’s lifeblood tourist industry. After Mars Investigations is hired by the parents of one of the victims to find their son’s killer, Veronica is drawn into an epic eight-episode mystery that pits the enclave’s wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast’s answer to Daytona Beach.
The revival will begin filming later this autumn and is expected to stream on Hulu sometime in 2019.
