'The Wendy Williams Show' Put on Hiatus After Doctor Prescribes Vacation for Host
Rest is literally what the doctor ordered for Wendy Williams.
On Wednesday, the talk show host opened up about her struggles with Graves' disease and hyperthyroidism, revealing that she was dealing with a lot in her life, both personally and professionally, so she didn't get a chance to see her endocrinologist until recently. During the appointment, her doctor told her she needed a chance to slow down.
"My doctor has prescribed -- are you ready? -- as of today, three weeks of vacation," she told viewers.
The host is heeding her doctor's advice, so that means "The Wendy Williams Show" will be on a three-week hiatus. Williams clearly isn't happy that they'll have to air encore episodes in place of new ones, but she reassured fans.
"Our encores are better than most," she said.
Meanwhile, Williams has the support of her co-workers. A spokesperson for her show told Deadline in a statement that the host is "a true champion and has never missed a day of work."
"Her health and well-being must be put before all else," the statement also reads, in part. "Wendy has been openly dealing with her Graves' Disease for many years in addition to hyperthyroidism."
Hopefully Williams's vacation will be exactly what she needs.
