'The Walking Dead' Season 9: Michonne Leads New 'Western Vibe' in First Photo
"The Walking Dead" Season 9 has a major time jump, but it's going waaaay back in time in terms of everyday life.
At some point in the walker/zombie apocalypse, stuff and thangs fall apart and supplies get particularly low. That's ahead in Season 9, which will feature old school lamp lighting, horses and wagons, and other things that will basically make it look like a period piece ... just with the undead. (Like "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.")
AMC shared the first poster/key art a few days ago, teasing new looks for the main cast, and an upcoming visit to decrepit Washington, D.C. Entertainment Weekly just shared the first official photo from the new season, showing Michonne (Danai Gurira) on horseback, leading her own cowgirl posse:
Showrunner Angela Kang told EW about the new "fun Western vibe" this year:
"We’ll explore what happened as man made objects and structures break down. Infrastructure like roads and bridges are changing and crumbling. And we’ll also explore what happens as resources are getting low. There’s a fun Western vibe that has emerged. We are going into a period where a lot of the things that we’ve seen in previous seasons have broken down, so they’ve got these horses and carriages that are being drawn around instead of cars. Things are lit with oil lamps. People are using different kinds of weaponry. There’s a real grittiness to it that I think will be fun and fresh for the viewers."
Rick has a fresh new look, as teased in the key art at top. Negan will also apparently lose some hair, as teased in this recent photo with Jeffrey Dean Morgan:
The official "Walking Dead" Season 9 trailer will be released during San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 20. That's also when fans should learn of the premiere date on AMC, beyond some Sunday this October.
