*Warning: Spoilers ahead from the "Walking Dead" comic book and TV show.*

"The Walking Dead" will get serious about the comic in the second half of Season 6, adding several new characters from Robert Kirkman's source material. The undead action won't return until Sunday, February 14, but when the next eight episodes air, they'll include more than all those walkers in Alexandria. We know major villain Negan is coming -- but physically not until the Season 6 finale. AMC already gave us a scene with his group, The Saviors, demanding everything from Daryl, Sasha, and Abraham. Now TVLine has scoop on another comic book character who'll also be arriving in the second half.

According to TVLine, "24" vet Xander Berkeley will be playing Gregory.

They didn't say how closely the character would follow the comic book but, on the page, Gregory is the leader of Hilltop Colony, a farm community near Alexandria. Gregory is not a great leader, to say the least. He's an arrogant coward -- and it sounds like the TV show might be keeping him in the same zone.

You may recall reading this Season 6, Episode 11 casting breakdown from Spoil the Dead, and it does sound like Gregory:

[RICH] 50s - early 60s. Please submit all ethnicities. Narcissistic, egotistical, quick to braggadocio and anger, his own skin is his principal concern. He feeds off the superiority of being in control, but he plays it off with Senator-like charm. He's vibrant, and has the charisma of a car salesman...GUEST STAR, MAY RECUR THIS SEASON, WILL HAVE SERIES OPTION FOR SUBSEQUENT SEASONS (7/16)."

If the show follows the comic, we should meet Gregory at Hilltop after meeting Hilltop resident Paul "Jesus" Monroe. After a rough start with the usual mutual distrust, Jesus ends up one of Rick Grimes's (Andrew Lincoln) closest friends. We know Tom Payne has been cast as Jesus, but who knows how they'll change the character on TV. The Spoiling Dead Fans showed the construction of Hilltop a while back, so we now it's coming, and it looks very close to the comic.

Speaking of comic book stuff, showrunner Scott M. Gimple recently talked to The Hollywood Reporter about what's ahead:

You've cast Negan and introduced Dwight, giving the latter a backstory. How will Negan's first appearance differ from the comic? How much of Negan's group — aka The Saviors — will viewers see and get to know before Jeffrey Dean Morgan appears?

There are a lot of direct moments from the comic coming up in the second half and panels that we're bringing to life — from very big comic moments to really tiny comic moments. Things that are not gigantic and dramatic but just little moments from the comic that all add up to some big moments. The second half is very cumulative. Within that, there is one of the weirdest episodes we've ever done because it's one of the amazingly enough more light-hearted episodes, which was terrifying on my side.
