'The Secret' Is Becoming a Movie Starring Katie Holmes
Katie Holmes is getting in on the trend of bringing self-help books to screen.
The actress is set to star in the film adaptation of "The Secret," Deadline reports. The movie will have an original plot, but the story will tie in with the lessons of the popular Rhonda Byrne book it's based on. After being published in 2009, the book sat on the New York Times' bestsellers' list for three-and-a-half years.
Penned by Bekah Brunstetter ("This Is Us") and Rick Parks ("Ever After: A Cinderella Story"), the plot centers on Holmes's character, a widow with three children. When a terrible storm prompts her to hire a handyman, she and her family will form a relationship with the man, and he'll share the philosophy of "The Secret." Unbeknownst to the widow, though, he'll have a secret connection to her past.
Producer Robert Cort describes the film as a "compelling family love story" and promises that it will be "as funny, emotional and endearing as its message is hopeful." With Holmes starring and Andy Tennant ("Sweet Home Alabama") directing, it sounds like they have perfect ingredients to do just that.
