There's clearly still "ill will" between them.

Arguably the most exciting thing about "Fast 8" was the pre-film feud between Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Vin Diesel. It started with The Rock calling out the male "candy asses" on set. Rumors quickly spread that he was specifically referring to Vin Diesel. There was a lot of back-and-forth, and they reportedly made up.

But it sounds like they didn't really make up -- and The Rock isn't even committing to "Fast 9" at this point.

Johnson opened up on the beef between the two stars in his new Rolling Stone profile. Here's a portion of that section of the interview:

"When ['The Fate of the Furious'] came out, eagle-eyed viewers noticed the pair's scenes were shot in such a way that they might not have been on set at the same time. "That is correct," confirms Johnson. "We were not in any scenes together."

"Dwayne will give you a lot of latitude," Beau Flynn says. "You can push and push and push. But there's a line in the sand with him – close to his toes, probably – and if you cross that, that's one of the rare times he gets upset."

Johnson says their beef came down to a disagreement about professionalism. "Vin and I had a few discussions, including an important face-to-face in my trailer," he says. "And what I came to realize is that we have a fundamental difference in philosophies on how we approach moviemaking and collaborating. It took me some time, but I'm grateful for that clarity. Whether we work together again or not."

Does that mean he might not be back for the ninth installment? "I'm not quite sure," he says. "Right now I'm concentrating on making the spinoff as good as it can be" – Hobbs and Shaw, co-starring Jason Statham, due next year. "But I wish him all the best, and I harbor no ill will there, just because of the clarity we have."

He considers this, then lets out a big, sly laugh. "Actually, you can erase that last part about 'no ill will.' We'll just keep it with the clarity."

If you remember, after his initial "candy asses" Instagram post made headlines, The Rock didn't apologize for it. Instead, he basically bragged that it was great publicity for the movie. At least he's honest!

After that feud, Tyrese jumped into the fray with his own The Rock feud over the Hobbs spinoff. And Michelle Rodriguez has talked about not wanting to return for "Fast 9" if the women aren't given more to do. Maybe the women can start feuding next. #Equality

"Fast & Furious 9" is currently scheduled for release in theaters on April 10th, 2020.
