'The Real World' Getting Rebooted on Facebook Watch
What happens when people stop being polite and start being real? Facebook users will soon find out when "The Real World" comes to the social network's video platform.
Facebook Watch is rebooting the iconic docu-series, which aired on MTV for 32 seasons from 1992 to 2017. It will launch three seasons of the show — one in the U.S., one in Mexico, and one in Thailand — sometime in spring 2019.
The reboot will feature a new layer of audience interaction. The Facebook community will be able to vote on one housemate before the shows begin streaming, as well as offering opportunities for fans to connect directly with the cast with tools like FB Live, Premieres and Watch Party.
The reality series follows a group of young adults, all strangers, who move into a house in a new city together and engage in romances and arguments. Over the years, "Real World" has been credited with putting a spotlight on issues like AIDS, drug abuse, prejudice, sexuality, and more.
Many "Real World" alums have achieved fame, including actresses Jacinda Barrett and Jamie Chung, congressman Sean Duffy, pro wrestler Mike Mizanin, and 'Queer Eye' advisor Karamo Brown.
