The more we hear about the potential "Originals" spinoff, the more interested we are.

Although the project is "Vampire Diaries" and "Originals" creator Julie Plec hasn't been shy about sharing her ideas. She recently chatted with Variety about "The Originals" ending, and she had plenty to say about where a follow-up series could go, too.

The spinoff is, as Plec describes it, "a nugget of hope that lives in the recesses of [her] mind," but it sounds like it's one worth mining. The story would center on Hope Mikaelson (now played by Danielle Rose Russell), a teen girl with Original vampires, werewolves, hybrids, and even witches in her family lineage. That would makes her one complicated -- not to mention powerful -- protagonist.

"I always sort of see her as the Angel to whoever the Buffy is," Plec told Variety, alluding to "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." "She's lived a lot, she's experienced a lot, she's faced death ... I like the idea that at 17 she's seen more, done more, felt more and loved more than most people at that age."

Hope still has a season of "The Originals" -- and all the twists and turns that entails -- to go through, but if she does indeed get her own spinoff, she's likely to be joined by at least one familiar face. Matthew Davis, who has appeared in both "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals" as Alaric Saltzman, is currently attached to the project alongside Russell. Once we see who survives the "Originals" series finale, we'll hopefully get more insight on who else could join them.

The final season of "The Originals" begins April 18 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. Beyond that, we'll keep hoping for a chance to find out who Hope's Buffy is.
