Some Fans Want to Remake 'The Last Jedi' and Twitter Is Having a Field Day
A fan-led campaign to remake last year's "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" has been met with some understandable skepticism on social media, though original director Rian Johnson has offered his support for the proposal.
Of course, we're assuming that that support is tongue in cheek, as are many of the suggestions offered by fellow Twitter users in response to the campaign, spearheaded by a group calling themselves Remake The Last Jedi. According to this mysterious collection of fans, they already have a team of producers prepared to pony up $200 million for the film, which they say will "save Star Wars" and "make a version of TLJ that is as close to universally accepted as possible."
Our team of producers is offering to cover the budget for a remake of The Last Jedi in order to save Star Wars. Share this and spread the word to let @RobertIger & @Disney know you want this! This isn't a joke, we're ready to have the convo now! #RemakeTheLastJedi#StarWars

We will be consulting with Star Wars fans directly throughout the writing of the remake of The Last Jedi as the plan is to make a version of TLJ that is as close to universally accepted as possible! (You'll never please everyone, but at least it wouldn't be blasphemy)

The people in power think the fans who disliked TLJ are an irrelevant minority of basement dwellers who are just keyboard cowboys that will never actually effect real change. If you don't want them to win then spread #RemakeTheLastJedi and let your voice be heard!

Naturally, this announcement was met with a collective raised eyebrow, with even Seth Rogen wading in to find out how such a movie would be possible to make, since it would require Disney to sign off on the usage of its copyrighted material. While the folks at Remake The Last Jedi work out those details, though, Twitter is already offering a bunch of ideas for the new and improved movie. ("The Last LAST Jedi"? "The Last Jedi, But For Real This Time"? We'll work on fine-tuning the title.)
Yo I'm very confused as to what your goal is here. You literally want to spend 200 million dollars remaking the last Jedi? And someone is giving you that money? I don't get it.
— Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) June 21, 2018
How did you get investors without a script or stars or director or legal ability to make this movie? Those have been important elements in the past.

please please please please pleeeeeeeaaaase please actually happen please please please please please ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? https://t.co/mNpSjgovax

Ok, how about this, they pay for a The Last Jedi remake, and it's exactly the same but all the actors have to make their own laser and lightsaber noises.

Things I Will Fix in The Last Jedi:
1. Leia and Holdo kiss
2. Luke = more crotchety
3. Kylo Ren and Rey sing a funny duet about becoming friends in their mind-link set to a montage of Rey pissing off the nuns
4. Kylo Ren actually never wears a shirt now and is wider every scene— Kivan, King of Cups (he/him) (@KivaBay) June 21, 2018
I've been thinking about this more, and I would actually support a Last Jedi remake where everything was exactly the same, except all the characters were explicitly bisexual.

I gotta be honest: I actually WANT a $200 million remake of THE LAST JEDI written, produced, directed by and starring amateurs. I can think of no quicker way to demolish people's fantasies that they can do this kind of thing just as well as the professionals.

I myself remade "Return of the Jedi" over 10,000 times on this very set pic.twitter.com/kjTM97Dri0

Notes for the Last Jedi remake:
1) Luke needs to be louder, angrier, and have access to a time machine
2) whenever Luke's not onscreen, all the other characters should be asking "Where's Luke?"

I'm going to remake The Last Jedi remake and make every character a LADY and have Luke Skywalker marry six porgs in a trenchcoat.

Pleased to announce that my producers and I will be hiring Rian Johnson to remake the remake of THE LAST JEDI as soon as it's done shooting, and it will be exactly the same as the first LAST JEDI. Checkmate, bitches.

Sure, "The Last Jedi" wasn't a perfect movie, and as with any beloved franchise, there are bound to be disagreements over bold choices that affect its future. But Disney already has bigger problems to tackle; it seems safe to say that remaking a six-month-old movie -- and changing the course of the in-progress "Episode IX" in the process -- is not on the studio's to-do list.
If that changes, we'll be the first to let you know, though. Some of these suggestions would be pretty awesome to see on the big screen.
