'The Big Sick' Trailer Teams Up Kumail Nanjiani and Ray Romano
"Love isn't easy," Ray Romano tells Kumail Nanjiani in the trailer for "The Big Sick." "That's why they call it love."
If love isn't easy, neither is befriending your ex-girlfriend's father while she lays in a coma. That's the premise of the romantic comedy, which "Silicon Valley" star Nanjiani wrote with his real-life wife Emily V. Gordon based on their relationship. In the movie, Kumail is dating Emily (played by Zoe Kazan), but breaks up with her because his family expects him to marry a nice Pakistani Muslim girl.
But when Emily falls into a coma, Kumail shows up at the hospital to comfort her parents (Romano and Holly Hunter). They rebuff him at first, but soon, he winds up becoming part of their family."The Big Sick" opened at the Sundance Film Festival, where it earned glowing reviews. The movie opens in limited release June 23 and then expanders wider July 14.
