"Orange Is the New Black" star Taryn Manning said she "felt used for someone else's gain" when the cost of her SAG Awards dress made headlines.

Manning, who plays Pennsatucky on the Netflix show, joined her nominated cast-mates at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last Sunday. She looked beautiful in a black Adrianna Papell gown. Apparently it cost $200 and was available for anyone at department stores. That was news to Manning, and she was frustrated to be put in that position instead of being put in a more glamorous gown.

That's paraphrasing Manning's initial comments to TMZ, when they approached her at the airport. She seemed embarrassed about the dress getting attention for being only $200 -- mostly, it seems, because she was the last to know about the price angle:

"It's wack that my stylist didn't tell me that," Manning told TMZ. "Now everyone else can afford it, that's what's cool about it, but it still sucks for me. I want to be in like a superstar gown ... So the designer got a lot of press. She should pay me a lot of money."

Those remarks were off-the-cuff with TMZ cameras in her face, and she later took to Instagram to apologize -- but also explain why she was genuinely frustrated with the situation:

Hey guys:) I first want to say I'm sorry for the comments I made while being bombarded by paparazzi about my stylist and my dress. Let's be clear, I loved my @adriannapapell dress and I'm friends with my stylist @chaunielle_brown I felt so beautiful and I was proud to be there to support my amazing cast of strong women and celebrate our nomination. But styling should be a collaboration between the artist, stylist and the designer. I was completely caught off guard when all of the press about my dress was about the cost, which I knew nothing about, and I felt used for someone else's gain. There was nothing out there about why I was there in the first place. I would have loved to embrace that my dress was affordable at SAG, especially since so much about fashion is unattainable, but I wasn't given that chance. Every artist dreams of wearing couture on a red carpet if given the opportunity. But I am happy to be the proof that there is more to feeling confident, beautiful and happy on the inside than just a price tag #love ⚡️????????

Listen, for many of us, $200 isn't even cheap. Cheap is the back rack of Goodwill -- which has some good sh*t, if you hit it at the right time. The point being, price does not equal quality or worth. She looked great. The dress was beautiful. Who cares if it wasn't one-of-a-kind and The Rest Of Us might actually be able to wear it ourselves someday?

But she did have a fair point about her stylist not telling her. If her stylist had told her it was a department store dress -- instead of leaving her feeling blindsided -- that could've been something Manning worked into conversations on the red carpet.
