The Kissmaster is returning to "The Bachelor" mansion. In what actually did live up to its "shocking" billing, Arie Luyendyk, Jr. was named the 2018 Bachelor for Season 22.

Arie, now 35, was a fan favorite after wooing Emily Maynard to second place on "The Bachelorette" Season 8 in 2012. There was a push to get him named the next Bachelor back then, but ABC went with Sean Lowe.

But now, the race car driver -- son of two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Arie Luyendyk -- will finally get his chance for love. The news was just made official on "Good Morning America."

As Arie put it, the call was "pretty recent," but the timing works well for him right now.

Reality Steve had said it would be Peter Kraus, insisting that he was the guy they always wanted. Maybe Peter declined. Just yesterday Bachelor boss Mike Fleiss tweeted that Peter would "probably" not be The Bachelor. Then he teased out a bunch of hints about the new guy.

Fans also suggested several options from "Bachelor in Paradise" Season 4, from Wells the bartender to Ben Z and his dog Zeus, to a major push for Kristina to go straight to her own season of "The Bachelorette."

But nope. It's Arie.

Arie was born in the Netherlands, but he's based in Scottsdale, Arizona. So is "Bachelor" Ben Flajnik's winner Courtney Robertson, and they dated for a while. Arie was known as a good kisser, unlike some of the sloppy guys we've been seeing on recent seasons.

Meanwhile, Peter tweeted late last night in what is being read as a reaction to the new Bachelor:


No Peter as "The Bachelor." No Peter on "Dancing With the Stars." This is certainly disappointing for his fans.

Well, maybe he'll show up next summer on "Bachelor in Paradise" and meet someone that way?
