'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Behind-the-Scenes Video Teases 'Shocking' Story With 'Depth'
"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" director Rian Johnson and his cast want you to expect the unexpected from Episode VIII. Johnson even admits, in a new behind-the-scenes set video shared during the D23 Expo, that he hopes the movie will be "a little shocking," but he also hopes it feels "real and honest."
"Rian has written a story that's unexpected but right," Daisy Ridley (Rey) says in the video (see below). "Some of the stuff that happens, people are going to be like 'Oh my God!' [...] And even though everybody knows that it's the second in a trilogy, it feels like its own thing."
Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) adds, "Even though I think I know it all, they throw things at me story-wise I never could've imagined."
As John Boyega (Finn) puts it, "Rian's made Star Wars fresh and new."
Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma) says, "It's our most ancient story of good against evil told in the most fascinating way, but it has a real spiritual depth to it. [...] It feels like the storyline's becoming more established. We're really getting to know these new characters."
One of the newest characters is Rose Tico, played by Kelly Marie Tran, who talks about the cool new creatures and visual effects, while noting that the characters are all still so complex.
Watch the video to see the new footage that slips in, and see more of Carrie Fisher (General Leia Organa) in what turned out to be her final "Star Wars" role.
