First Look at 'Star Trek: Discovery' Photo Explores the Final Frontier
Beam us up to "Star Trek: Discovery"! CBS All-Access released the first image from the new franchise installment, which is currently filming in Toronto.
The photo features Michelle Yeoh as Captain Philippa Georgiou and Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham. The officers of the Starship Shenzhou are depicted exploring a desolate, desert-like landscape: "Discovery" is a prequel to the original "Star Trek" series, which is why Burnham is sporting an old-school flip communicator and what looks like a tricorder on her belt. Neither woman is in uniform, but instead are wearing clothing more appropriate to the planet they are exploring.
In addition to Yeoh and Martin-Green, the cast includes: Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca; James Frain as Spock's father, Sarek; Doug Jones as Lt. Saru, a science officer who is part of a new alien spieces to the "Trek"-verse; and Anthony Rapp as Lt. Stamets.
"Star Trek: Discovery" is expected to debut later this on CBS All-Access and air weekly.
