Spoiler Alert: No 'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Screeners Are Coming, for Anyone
Hodor! "Game of Thrones" Season 6 premieres April 24, and we will all have to watch each episode as a TV viewing family. For the first time, HBO has decided not to send out any "Game of Thrones" review copies to press. Last year, they doled out the first four hours to the media and someone effed up, 'cause the content leaked onto BitTorrent before the premiere.
This is why we can't have nice things.
"We're not sending out press copies this year, anywhere in the world," HBO programming president Michael Lombardo told Entertainment Weekly. "There will be no copies for review." He added that "it's painful" for showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss when the leaks happen because they're throwing a surprise party for all of us and someone popped the balloons.
"When you have press copies, inevitably friends ask, 'Can I see your copy?'" Lombardo added. "There are things that happen. We talked about the upsides and downsides. Some of the press are fans who might be disappointed, but they'll understand."
Many fans probably don't care, 'cause it's not like they got special treatment to see the episodes in advance, and now we're all on the same level playing field. Anyone who was unintentionally spoiled last year may be cheering, 'cause the odds of that happening again just went down. However, anyone hoping for early episode leaks is probably out of luck ... although they can just go to Watchers on the Wall for casting and filming spoilers.
