Showtime's 'The Affair' Gets Premiere Date for 5th and Final Season
The end of "The Affair" is here.
Showtime has set a premiere date for the fifth and final season of the relationship drama. The last 11 episodes will begin airing Sunday, August 25 at 9 p.m.
Season 5 jumps ahead two or three decades in the future, with Anna Paquin joining the cast as a grown-up Joanie, the daughter of Alison (Ruth Wilson) and Cole (Joshua Jackson). She returns to Montauk years in the future to piece together the truth about what happened to her mother, bringing the whole story full circle.
At the end of Season 4, Alison was found drowned and it was believed by authorities that she had committed suicide. Unbeknownst to anybody, she was actually killed by love interest Ben.
Meanwhile, Helen (Maura Tierney) begins the season involved in an intoxicating new affair with a charismatic movie star (guest star Claes Bang), who offers to give her everything she’s been missing. Noah (Dominic West) has to swallow his pride and his jealousy and step in to take care of his family in her absence.
But just when things seem to have stabilized, a chance encounter with someone from the distant past sets in a motion a sequence of events that brings them both to their knees.
Wilson and Jackson are not expected to return in the final season. The former's character is dead, though she could be seen in flashbacks; however, there may be hard feelings between the actress and show over her exit.
