Change of plans: "Homeland" Season 8 will not premiere in June after all.

Showtime has decided to push the premiere date of the final season back a few months. The network's co-president Gary Levine pointed to the "production demands of [their] international locations," during a TCA presentation Thursday. "Homeland" Season 8 is now slated for a fall premiere.

Originally, Showtime expected the Claire Danes-starring series to return this summer. The network had announced in August that "the final mission starts June 2019." Production hasn't yet begun, but it will next week, per Levine.

The good news is that when "Homeland" does return, it should deliver. Levine teased "a breathless, surprising, and moving ride to its conclusion." He previously assured fans that the show wouldn't be "limping into the sunset."

At this point, "Homeland" viewers may be used to a somewhat irregular release schedule. The first five seasons all arrived in the fall, but Seasons 6 and 7 had winter premiere dates.
