Sarah Drew Was 'Devastated' Japril Wasn't Endgame on 'Grey's Anatomy'
Former "Grey's Anatomy" star Sarah Drew is moving on after her exit from the longrunning series earlier this year. But that doesn't mean that the actress doesn't have some regrets about how her character's arc ended.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Drew reflected on life so far after "Grey's," admitting that she was heartbroken when showrunner Krista Vernoff explained that she was going to be written out of the series. Despite that disappointment, the actress says she's taking her newfound freedom as an opportunity to explore a new passion for directing, which she tried her hand at for the first time on the "Grey's" web series "B-Team" (which was just nominated for an Emmy).
As for how her story wrapped as Dr. April Kepner, where she tied the knot with her long-ago love Matthew (Justin Bruening), Drew said she found their redemption story "beautiful." But she couldn't help but grieve for a different scenario.
In the midst of it, I was devastated that Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April wasn't an end game. I thought Jackson and April were meant to get back together and they were going to get married again and realize they'd been crazy and it was just going to be this long, slow burn.

I can see the beauty in [April and Matthew's story]. But part of me will always be a little heartbroken that April and Jackson were not end game.
We think all of those rabid Japril fans would agree.
As for whether April's ties to Jackson (namely their daughter) would ever bring her back to "Grey's," Drew wouldn't say definitively. When asked if she'd be open to a future guest starring appearance, she simply said, "Maybe."
Guess we'll have to wait and see. Her chances of reappearing are probably better than Sara Ramirez's at this point.
