Salma Hayek Tried Convincing Her Husband She Had an Affair
Salma Hayek's 'Brillant' Affair on Husband
Salma Hayek has a doggone addiction—she can't stop rescuing stray dogs. She's even been reprimanded by her husband over the unofficial pet sanctuary that they call home.
"I pick up dogs from the street, not even rescued from the shelter," she explains Thursday to Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show." The dogs, she says, are orphans and she "can't take it."
Her husband, François-Henri Pinault, has told her that they can't take on any more pets now that they have 30 animals, nine of them dogs. She agreed, but then she saw a stray while filming a movie in Bulgaria. She couldn't help herself, but wondered how she was going to tell her husband, so she came up with a "brilliant," albeit unconventional, plan.
"I'm going to pretend... make him believe that I'm having an affair," she says of the scheme. "I called him up and I said, 'We have to talk,' and I'm not that kind of girl. I'm not the 'I need to talk girl' so he was scared."
Her conniving plan was officially underway.
Going 'Mad': Salma Hayek Is a Dog Lover
After he called, she remembers telling him, "'Listen, it breaks my heart to tell you this news because I know it's going to disappoint you. It's really hard for me to come up with the courage to say this to you—and I can't take it any longer—I have to tell you. Just understand that I've been here working so much, I'm so tired.'"
The "Frida" actress told him she was "so lonely." She continues, "You don't think straight in this moment of madness.'"
It seems that her excuses did little to distract from what was obvious to him. She explains: "He said, 'Oh, please don't tell me you picked up another dog.'"
Hayek is promoting "The Prophet," of which she voices a character and produced the animated film, in theaters now.
