Ryan Gosling Sings (and Smooches Emma Stone) in Dreamy 'La La Land' Trailer
Seriously? It's like they're both Photoshopped. Sigh. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are reuniting for the third time in the romantic musical "La La Land," from "Whiplash" writer/director Damien Chazelle. The swoon-worthy first trailer was just released, featuring Gosling as a jazz musician and Stone as an aspiring actress. It's Gosling's voice that we hear over a montage of images:
"City of stars, are you shining just for me? City of stars, there's so much that I can't see. Is this the start of something wonderful and new, or one more dream that I cannot make true?"
Here's the official synopsis:
"Written and directed by Academy Award nominee Damien Chazelle, LA LA LAND tells the story of Mia [Emma Stone], an aspiring actress, and Sebastian [Ryan Gosling], a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams."
The original song "City of Stars" is now available for download. The movie itself -- which co-stars J.K. Simmons, Rosemarie DeWitt, John Legend, Finn Wittrock, Jessica Rothe, and Sonoya Mizuno -- will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on August 31, then open in limited release in early December, before going wide on December 16.
Here's the poster, which has that same retro romance feel as the trailer:
