Quinn just can't win. "Homeland" Season 6 is now in production for its January 15, 2017 premiere on Showtime. It has already been revealed that Rupert Friend is returning as Peter Quinn -- albeit a "very changed and altered Quinn" -- despite the character looking like he might have died in the Season 5 finale.

However, now there's a snag.

Deadline reports that Rupert Friend hurt his ankle during production on Season 6 episodes 1 and 2. He was seen using crutches at Showtime's pre-Emmys party over the weekend. The actor told Deadline he broke a bone in his right ankle while off work, but the injury started from a couple of on-set injuries in Seasons 4 and 5 when he weakened ligaments by rolling his ankle. So now he is slightly benched, and filming has been "reshuffled," with the director of episodes 3 and 4, executive producer Lesli Linka Glatter, stepping in to shoot the scenes that can be done around Friend's injury.

Friend told Deadline he hopes to have his cast off in a couple of weeks, and then resume filming in full force to complete the first two episodes. Although this has pushed production back a bit, the premiere date is staying the same.

What this really tells us is that Peter Quinn must have a pretty serious role in Season 6, if the actor's ankle injury can impact production to this extent. It doesn't sound like he'll be stuck in bed.

Back at the TCAs, showrunner Alex Gansa teased, "I think Quinn, this coming season, will really represent a profound and familiar casualty of the war on terror for our audience. What he endured last year is different from what he'll go through this year. This year will be fused with his daily relationship with Claire [Danes'] character."
