"Can You Ever Forgive Me?" Oscar nominee Richard E. Grant has lined up his next role:  He'll play a  legendary drag queen in the film adaptation of the popular British stage musical "Everybody’s Talking About Jamie."

The musical was based on the true story of Jamie Campbell, a 16-year-old boy who became a drag queen. His story was first documented in the BBC documentary, “Jamie: Drag Queen at 16,” which explored how the teenager overcame prejudice and the bullies at his school to become a drag sensation.

Newcomer Max Harwood will play Jamie, Grant will play Jamie’s mentor Hugo, whose stage name is Loco Channelle.

“Catastrophe” star Sharon Horgan has been cast as Jamie’s teacher and Sarah Lancashire ("Happy Valley") as his mother. Shobna Gulati, from the original stage cast, will reprise her role of Ray.

Also on board: The original stage production team, including director Jonathan Butterell, writer Tom MacRae, composer Dan Gillespie Sells and choreographer Kate Prince.

Filming will begin in Sheffield, England, on June 24.

"Who would have thought when Jamie Campbell first put on his prom dress, that eight years later we would have brought together the best of British and Irish acting talent to tell his story. As well as launching a brand new star in Max Harwood to play Jamie himself, we’re so thrilled to welcome Sarah, Richard and Sharon to the Jamie family. Now the party’s really getting started."

Grant, who attained cult status with the 1987 British comedy "Withnail and I," will next be seen in "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker."
