Rian Johnson Announces 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Is Totally Wrapped

It's a (final) wrap on "Star Wars: The Last Jedi."

Director Rian Johnson announced on social media that postproduction has been completed on Episode VIII of the space saga. Even all of the special effects and sound design are done.

Aaaand that's a wrap on the hardest working post production team in the galaxy. Going to miss sitting in dark rooms with these goobers.

Filming took place from February to July 2016. Reshoots took place in June of this year, though they were reportedly nowhere near as extensive as the reshoots for "Rogue One."

"The Last Jedi" has been an untroubled production, unlike several of the other "Star Wars" properties. "Rogue One" was essentially handed off to another director during reshoots, which incorporated major storyline changes.

And this summer, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy fired directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller during filming and replaced them with Ron Howard. Kennedy also fired "Episode IX" director Colin Trevorrow and replaced him with "Force Awakens" helmer J.J. Abrams.

That Johnson has locked the film with three months to spare is another sign that "Last Jedi's" journey has been smooth. Even Abrams didn't have a final cut of "Force Awakens" until a month before release.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" opens in theaters December 15.
