‘Poltergeist’ Headed to Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights
They’re heeeeeeere.
At this year’s Halloween Horror Nights celebration, at both Universal Studios Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood, a brand-new maze will debut that’s themed to Tobe Hooper and Steven Spielberg’s immortal haunted house classic “Poltergeist.” And we couldn’t be more excited (we’re already readying our screaming Craig T. Nelson impression).
According to the official press release, these new mazes (the first ever based on the 1982 masterpiece) will being a “living representation of the film will take guests into some of its most iconic scenes and encounter memorable characters that spawned their first true nightmares.” But what can we expect, specifically from this experience? Again, taken from the official press release: “From the underground graveyard to ghostly apparitions, guests will come face to face with infamous scenes from the film including the iconic flickering TV screen, menacing Beast from beyond and pool filled with floating corpses. As guests cross into the ‘light,’ they will find themselves surrounded by a surreal landscape of vanishing walls, floating furniture and a creepy clown with a menacing smile.” Yes.
Halloween Horror Nights at Universal has become a yearly highlight for horror junkies and cinema enthusiasts alike. Last year saw a truly jaw-dropping maze dedicated to Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” and this year, it sounds like the “Poltergeist” maze will occupy a similar spot – adapted from a beloved favorite, using innovative scare techniques and cutting-edge technology, and truly putting you inside of that very specific, horrifying world.
Halloween Horror Nights begins on both coasts on September 14 (get your tickets here). We’ll be there, doing our best Craig T. Nelson impression.
