'Perry Mason' HBO Limited Series Adds Chris Chalk, Shea Whigham, Nate Corddry, More
HBO's upcoming limited series "Perry Mason" is rounding out its cast, which is led by Matthew Rhys in the title role.
Chris Chalk ("Gotham," "When They See Us") and Shea Whigham ("Homecoming") will be series regulars. Also on board are Nate Corddry ("Mom"), Veronica Falcon ("Queen of the South"), Jefferson Mays ("I Am The Night"), Gayle Rankin ("GLOW") and Lili Taylor (Chambers) in recurring roles.
They join "Orphan Black" Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany and "The Crown" Emmy winner John Lithgow.
The project is a reimagining of the character first created by novelist Erle Stanley Gardner. Set in 1931, Rhys stars as defense attorney Perry Mason "at a time in his life when he is living check-to-check as a low-rent private investigator. Mason is haunted by his wartime experiences in France and is suffering the effects of a broken marriage."
While the rest of the country suffers through the Great Depression, Los Angeles is booming. When the case of the decade breaks down his door, Mason’s relentless pursuit of the truth reveals a fractured city and just maybe, a pathway to redemption for himself.
Chalk will play Paul Drake, a beat cop with a knack for detective work, while Whigham is Pete Strickland, a friend and colleague of Mason.
Corddry will portray Matthew Dodson, a grocery store owner whose young son is targeted for ransom, with Gayle Rankin as his wife Emily.
Falcon is hard-drinking speakeasy owner Lupe, while Mays is morgue attendant Virgil. Lili Taylor will play Birdy McKeegan, a devout Pentecostal church worker.
