'Pan' Flops in $15.5 Million Debut, 'The Martian' Cruises
Audiences made "Pan" walk the box office gangplank over the weekend with the big-budget movie opening to a dismal $15.5 million behind holdovers "The Martian" and "Hotel Transylvania 2," according to Sunday estimates.
Starring Hugh Jackman, Rooney Mara and Garrett Hedlund, the live-action, $150 million Peter Pan prequel failed to grab the family audience away "Transylvania Hotel 2," which finished second with about $20 million to bring its three-week total to nearly $117 million.
