Oscars 2018: 'Get Out' Wins Best Original Screenplay
Who wrote the best original script of 2017?
The 90th Academy Awards gave the honor to ... Jordan Peele for "Get Out"! Well deserved. But now "Get Out" needs to change its title - or just be shouted Elaine-in-'Seinfeld'-style.
Writer/director/producer Jordan Peele accepted the award, the day after he won Best Director and Best Picture at the Independent Spirit Awards. He said he stopped making the film several times because he thought it would never work. He thanked the people who pushed him to raise his voice and keep making it. He also thanked all the fans who came to see the movie, and kept it in the public eye. (Maybe all of those fans can get celebrity visits and free candy, too. Or even jet skis?)
Here's the list of Best Original Screenplay nominees:
- "The Big Sick," Emily V. Gordon & Kumail Nanjiani
- "Get Out," Jordan Peele
- "Lady Bird," Greta Gerwig
- "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri," Martin McDonagh
- "The Shape of Water," Guillermo del Toro & Vanessa Taylor
Tough category. Congrats to Jordan Peele and the "Get Out" team.
The 2018 Oscars, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, aired Sunday, March 4 on ABC.
