New 'Shazam!' Trailer Plays Up the Laughs About the Kid Superhero
Could "Shazam!" be the funniest superhero movie yet?
Warner Bros. released a new trailer for the upcoming DC movie that really plays up the jokes and comedy inherent in a 14-year-old teen boy who inherits an adult superhero body and powers.
When he shouts the word "Shazam!," Billy (Asher Angel) turns into a buff superhero (Zachary Levi). With the help of best friend Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer), they have a lot of fun figuring out his new abilities. Oh, and of course use Billy's adult appearance to score beer. Think "Big," but with super powers.
The DC Extended Universe has been a pretty grim place. That started to change with "Wonder Woman," which featured some light-hearted banter, and continued through the most recent "Aquaman." But "Shazam!" is really turning the comedy dial up to 11 and the trailer feels like a fun romp.
"Shazam!" opens in theaters April 5.
