Sci-fi series "Orphan Black" may have ended its run in 2017, but the show will live on -- in a sense, anyway -- thanks to a new project in development at AMC.

Variety reports that the cable outlet is teaming with original "Orphan Black" producers Temple Street Productions to make a new show "set in the 'Orphan Black' universe." What exactly that means is anyone's guess, since Variety's sources also said that this new project "would not be a spinoff or reboot of the original series, but rather a completely new story set in the same world."

The show is so mysterious, in fact, that it doesn't even have a script yet, but is currently seeking writers to pitch ideas "on what the show could be," per Variety. The original "Orphan Black" starred Tatiana Maslany as a woman who discovers she's one of several clones (also played by Maslany), who have all been targeted by a killer. Maslany won an Emmy for her role in 2016.

The series ran for five seasons on BBC America, with whom AMC is currently partnering to air another BBC America original series, "Killing Eve." It's unclear at this time if this new "Orphan Black" show would follow a similar broadcast strategy.
