Netflix Unveils Trailers for Royal Drama 'The Crown,' Musical Drama 'The Get Down'
2015 was a banner year for Jessica Jones," "Master of None," "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," and the current binge craze, "Making a Murderer."
This year might top that -- Netflix has a couple dozen new original series in the pipeline, including "The Crown" and "The Get Down," which both got sneak peeks unveiled today.
"The Crown" follows the British royal family in the 20th century, with a focus on Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy). From the trailer, the period drama seems to begin with the abdication of her uncle, KIng Edward VIII, through the reign of her father, George VI ("Mad Men" star Jared Harris), and follows Elizabeth as she marries Prince Phillip (Matt Smith) and is crowned as queen.
"The Get Down" is a musical drama, created by Baz Luhrmann and Shawn Ryan, set in 1970s New York City, and tracks a group of teenagers as they deal with crime, violence, and urban decay, all while listening to the music of the time -- hip-hop, soul, disco, and punk.
Both series are set to debut for binge-watching pleasure sometime in 2016.
