Alice Wu's 'The Half of It' Starring Leah Lewis Is in Production
The Netflix teen romance "The Half of It" is officially in production.
Director Alice Wu is hard at work on her first film since 2004's "Saving Face," as THR reports. She is directing a cast led by Leah Lewis ("Charmed"), Alexxis Lemire ("The Art of Murder"), and Daniel Diemer ("Sacred Lies"). The cast also includes Becky Ann Baker, Catherine Curtin, Wolfgang Novogratz, and Enrique Murciano.
The story is described as "a modern day Cyrano-meets-Pygmalion," per Deadline. It centers on Ellie (Lewis), a lonely high school girl who gets paid by jock Paul (Diemer) to write love letters to Aster (Lemire), who happens to be the object of both their affection. The two then learn from each other about love "as they find connection in the most unlikely of places."
Wu is producing "The Half of It" alongside Anthony Bregman, M. Blair Breard, and David Bausch. Executive producers are Erica Matlin and Greg Zuk. No release date for "The Half of It" has been announced yet, but it will stream on Netflix when the time comes.
