Netflix's Knows Subscribers Want More Rom-Coms, and They're on the Way
Netflix had us hooked on rom-coms this summer, and the streamer has the data to prove it.
After a solid Q3, Netflix reported that 80 million of its global subscribers watched at least one of the original rom-coms released during its so-called "Summer of Love," according to Variety. With the success that the company saw, it is already moving forward with production on even more films in the genre.
There were several films that made up the "Summer of Love." The list includes "Set It Up," starring Zoey Duetch and Glen Powell; "The Kissing Booth," starring Joey King and Jacob Elordi; "To All the Boys I've Loved Before," starring Lana Condor and Noah Centineo; "Like Father," starring Kristen Bell and Seth Rogen; and "Sierra Burgess Is a Loser," starring Centineo and Shannon Purser. Of all of them, "To All the Boys I've Loved Before," was particularly successful; the film made its lead actors stars virtually overnight, and the company says it's one of its "most viewed original films ever with strong repeat viewing."
As for what's coming next, the streamer said that its "next set of original rom-coms" are in production. We don't know many details yet, but we do know that fans have been asking for sequels. Let's hope they're part of the set.
In the meantime, there are also other rom-coms slated to drop soon. Netflix recently released new photos from its upcoming Christmas movies, and they look like they, too, will win our hearts.
