After being crowned Palme d'Or winner at the Cannes Film Festival, "Parasite" is officially headed to theaters.

Neon announced Thursday that the acclaimed film will open in theaters on Oct. 11, 2019 in Los Angeles and New York. The release date falls during awards season, which is, of course, intentional. It will give the film the chance to compete in the international film category as well as others.

"Parasite" comes from director Bong Joon Ho and is described as a "pitch-black modern fairytale." It follows two families -- the wealthy Parks and the street-smart Kims. Their lives become intertwined and interdependent as the Kim children begin providing "indispensable" services to the Parks as a tutor and an art therapist. However, "this new ecosystem is fragile," as the descriptions says, "and soon enough greed and class prejudice threaten to upend the Kims' newfound comfort."

Song Kang-Ho ("Snowpiercer") stars in the film, and it is produced by Kwak Sin Ae and Jang Young Hwan of Barunson E&A Corp.

"Parasite" opens Oct. 11.
