'NCIS: Los Angeles' Had a Fitting Farewell for Miguel Ferrer's Owen Granger
He's gone. But he still lives on. That's how many feel about actor "NCIS: Los Angeles" character, Owen Granger.
Ferrer died from throat cancer in January, at the age of 61. His character was written out of the show in the March 5 episode, Season 8, Episode 16, "Old Tricks."
Granger had been stabbed and was at the hospital, but when Hetty (Linda Hunt) went to check on him, he was gone. As a nurse explained, "One minute he was here, and the next minute he wasn't. ... He pulled out his IV and walked out." But he left a note for Hetty, saying he had "unfinished business to take care of" and he would leave it up to her to explain his disappearing act.
As TVLine noted, a version of Bob Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door," sung by Ferrer and performed by his blues-rock band, played as Hetty left the hospital. Then the show aired its own memorial to the actor:
In loving memory of our friend, and colleague, whose strength and kindness will forever inspire us all. #NCISLApic.twitter.com/FzivbKZh4H

Overall, fans seemed to find it a fitting tribute, appreciating the song choice and the fact that Granger was not killed off, he just -- as one tweeted -- "left pretty much the way he came in, unannounced."
