Monique Coleman Experienced a Real-Life 'No Kiss List'
She plays a bookworm in “Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List,” but that didn’t mean Monique Coleman had to read the popular teen lit novel to nail the part—instead she relied on personal experience.
“I have yet to read the book,” the 34-year-old confesses to Made in Hollywood: Teen Edition at the OutFest premiere of the film on Friday.
In the romance-comedy, she portrays Robin—a guy-shy college student who gets a makeover and a date with help from Victoria Justice’s Naomi. Meanwhile Naomi finds herself in a gay-straight love triangle with her best friend Ely, played by Pierson Fode, who falls in love with her boyfriend Bruce 2, played by Ryan Ward.
“I felt like this was a timeless story that was relevant to today’s generation,” she says, adding that life truly does imitate art, “I know I’ve had the experience, being in love with a friend of mine knowing that it’s not really going to happen.”
“Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List” is based on the book of the same name by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, the authors of the bestselling book-turned-film “Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist.”
