31 Mistakes You Missed in Huge Fantasy Movies

A big budget doesn't always guarantee a perfect movie -- especially when special effects are involved. Some of the biggest fantasy movies, including this weekend's "D ark Tower" can't escape the occasional plot hole, continuity error, and, in some cases, blatant gaffe. For all you purists out there, here's a roundup of some of the fantasy genre's most noticeable movie mistakes. All images courtesy of MovieMistakes.com.

‘The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King’ (2003)

In this scene, when Gandalf (Ian McKellen) says, "The board is set, the pieces are moving," he has dark eyebrows. But later, when he asks Pippin to light the beacon, his eyebrows are whitish grey.

‘Labyrinth’ (1986)

As Sarah (Jennifer Connelly), Ludo, Hoggle, and Sir Didymus finally walk into Goblin City and reach the fountain, they face the stairs with the surrounding spike walls. However, when the Goblins appear, a puppeteer’s arm can be seen under his Goblin soldier puppet (look for the blue short-sleeve shirt).

'The Nightmare Before Christmas' (1993)

Following his explosion into the sky, Jack can be seen with several dark smudges across his face while sitting in the graveyard. In the very next shot, however, the marks on Jack's face have disappeared.

‘The Wizard of Oz’ (1939)

In this scene, when Dorothy (Judy Garland) and Scarecrow (Ray Bolger) are fighting with the trees, Dorothy’s shoes are briefly visible. However, if you look closely, the shoes are black and not the famous ruby red they should be.

‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’ (2002)

In the dueling scene when Snape (Alan Rickman) pulls Malfoy (Tom Felton) back onto his feet, a cameraman can be seen on the far left of the screen.

‘The Golden Compass’ (2007)

During the dinner when Lyra (Dakota Blue Richards) first meets Mrs. Coulter (Nicole Kidman), Lyra’s drink changes from a golden orange color to a deep red.

‘Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events’ (2004)

In the scene where Count Olaf (Jim Carrey) is walking from the balcony to the stairs, his right palm is visible and blank. Soon after, when he looks at his palms to remember Violet's (Emily Browning) name, his hand has writing and a drawing on it.

‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ (1988)

When Eddie (Bob Hoskins) is crushed flat onto the floor of Droopy's (Richard Williams) elevator, his shoes are a plain light brown. A few minutes later, when Eddie’s looking down at Judge Doom's (Christopher Lloyd) gun in the back alley, he’s wearing shinier brown Oxford shoes.

'Dark Shadows' (2012)

After becoming captive to Angelique once again, Barnabas is thrown into a coffin with a separate lid. However, when the coffin is put in the cemetery, the coffin suddenly has hinges and the lid is attached.

‘Coraline’ (2009)

During this scene, the red record player by the door is faced towards the wall, away from the father. In the next close-up shot, the player is turned around with the lid now closest to the wall.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl’ (2003)

When the medallion drops into the chest, there is blood covering almost half of it. However, just before Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) knocks Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) to the ground, he is holding the medallion in his hand, which has no blood on it at all. In later shots the blood reappears.

‘Enchanted’ (2007)

When Robert (Patrick Dempsey) and Morgan (Rachel Covey) are at his apartment, the actors' two T-marks are visible on the ground. The pink marker was for Giselle (Amy Adams) in the previous shot, and the orange marker is for Robert and Morgan to stand behind.

‘The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring’ (2001

When Frodo (Elijah Wood) stops rolling down the snow-covered hill, the fake hobbit feet Wood is wearing over his own are visible.

‘Spirited Away’ (2001)

When Chihiro (Daveigh Chase) is eating with Zeniba (Suzanne Pleshette), at first she does not have a slice of cake. Then in following close-up shots her slice appears in front of her.

‘The Princess Bride’ (1987)

In this scene, Westley (Carl Elwes) is matching wits with Vizzini (Wallace Shawn). However, every few shots Buttercup’s (Robin Wright) hair changes from over her shoulder to behind her back.

‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe’ (2005)

After Lucy (Georgie Henley) falls through the wardrobe the first time, she places her hands on a snow-covered lamp post. In the following shots the marks her fingers leave on the post continually change.

‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ (2001)

When Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and Ron (Rupert Grint) are riding the Hogwarts Express, Ron's hair is first parted down the center, and shortly after it is parted to the side.

‘Star Wars’ (1977)

When we see Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) in this scene, his arms are bare. However, in the next shot, just before they jump to hyperspace, his ammo belt suddenly appears on his left shoulder.

‘Peter Pan’ (1953)

When Wendy (Kathryn Beaumont) is laying Michael (Tommy Luske) down, her nightgown turns white. But the next time we see her the nightgown is blue.

'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1’ (2010)

At the Ministry of Magic, as Yaxley (Peter Mullan) is reprimanding Ron (Rupert Grint), the “M” initial on Yaxley's Ministry tie pin changes direction. In one shot, the letter "M" is tilted to the left and in the next shot it's slanted to the right.

‘The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian’ (2008)

When Miraz (Sergio Castellitto) tells Glozelle (Pierfrancesco Favino) to murder three of his men, Miraz's collar on his blue jacket repeatedly switches from folded down to straight up in consecutive shots.

'Back to the Future' (1985)

When Marty stands over his father's bed in an attempt to persuade him to date Lorraine, a hair-dryer can be seen in Marty's belt. In a glaring goof, the hair-dryer appears and disappears between varying shots.

‘The Little Mermaid’ (1989)

The first time Ariel (Jodi Benson) sees this fork it has four straight prongs. But when she picks it up, it becomes three prongs with one prong bent outward.

‘Jumanji’ (1995)

When we first see Carl's (David Alan Grier) cop car, it has the license plate "G2298.” Then when the giant vines wrap around it and pull it into a ditch, the rear of the car is completely different. The license plate now reads "CFJB95" in a different font, the text "POLICE 004" on the back is written differently, and the bumper and lights look like they're from a separate car entirely.

‘Stardust’ (2007)

As Tristan (Charlie Cox) approaches Lamia (Michelle Pfeiffer) after killing one of her sisters, he walks past the dead Septimus (Mark Strong) whose sword is about a foot away from his head. But when Lamia reaches into the pool to grab her voodoo doll, the sword is now in Septimus’s hand.

‘Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones’ (2002)

When Anakin (Hayden Christensen) and Padme (Natalie Portman) are standing outside the Lars' house, their shadows are projected onto the side of the building. In the next shot however, their embracing shadows have moved about four feet to the left.

‘Beauty and the Beast’ (1991)

At the end of the movie, when Belle (Paige O’Hara) shows the Mirror to Gaston (Richard White) and the other people in the village, she is wearing a white ribbon over her blue dress. When Gaston takes the mirror from her, her ribbon has disappeared.

‘Gremlins’ (1984)

As Mrs. Deagle (Polly Holliday) is walking down the street carrying the broken snowman head, a crew member holding a boom mic can be clearly seen in a reflection from a store window.

‘The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers’ (2002)

When Faramir (David Wenham) and his men are looking at the map of Middle-earth in Henneth Annûn, the plain Dagorlad is misspelled “Dagorland” on the map.

‘The Princess and the Frog’ (2009)

Tiana (Anika Noni Rose) is wearing a pair of gold earrings during Charlotte's ball, but when she's watching Charlotte (Jennifer Cody) dance with the Prince (Bruno Campos), her earrings have vanished.

‘Willow’ (1988)

When General Kael (Pat Roach) takes the baby to Nockmaar Castle, an initial wide shot shows a fortress tower off to the left. However, in the next shot, that piece of the castle is now completely missing, with mountains in its place instead.
