Million-Dollar Reward for Stolen 'Wizard of Oz' Ruby Slippers
A $1 million reward has been offered for information leading to the return of a pair of Judy Garland's ruby slippers from "The Wizard of Oz" that were stolen nearly a decade ago.
The slippers are among only four pairs that still exist from the 1939 classic musical, including a pair on display at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC and another pair acquired in 2012 by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences for its museum under construction in Los Angeles.
Worth between $2 million and $3 million, the slippers were lifted from the Judy Garland Museum in the actress's hometown of Grand Rapids, Mich., says John Kelsch, the museum's executive director.
The donor of the reward is from Arizona and a big fan of Garland and "The Wizard of Oz," Kelsch tells the Associated Press.
