Michelle Yeoh 'Star Trek: Discovery' Spinoff Confirmed by CBS All Access
Yet another "Star Trek" spinoff series is coming to CBS All Access, fronted by a familiar face from the new "Trek" universe.
The streaming service has confirmed earlier reports that Michelle Yeoh, who plays Capt. Philippa Georgiou on "Star Trek: Discovery," will be reprising that character in a new spinoff series centered around Georgiou's work with the shadowy Starfleet intelligence organization, Section 31. The character will also be appearing in the upcoming second season of "Discovery," presumably laying the groundwork for this new, as-yet-untitled series.
"I’m so excited to continue telling these rich 'Star Trek' stories,” Yeoh said in a statement. “Being a part of this universe and this character specifically has been such a joy for me to play. I can’t wait to see where it all goes — certainly I believe it will go 'where no woman has ever gone before!'"
Writers Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt are developing the series, and according to executive producer Alex Kurtzman, the duo will "bring a fresh perspective to the world of 'Star Trek' ... and the next wild chapter in the life of Captain Philippa Georgiou."
This new drama is one of several "Star Trek" projects Kurtzman is developing for CBS All Access. A series exploring the continuing adventures beloved "Next Generation" character Jean-Luc Picard (Sir Patrick Stewart, who's reprising his role) is set to debut later this year, and an animated "Trek" series is also in the works.
Sounds like "Star Trek" fans have plenty to look forward to in the coming years. Make it so, CBS.
