Meryl Streep and J.J. Abrams are teaming up for a new project, which is something that definitely needs to happen.

Deadline reports that the actress and director are in talks to jointly produce a television adaptation of Nathan Hill's debut novel "The Nix," which has been the literary sensation of the season. Streep will also star in the series (probably a miniseries), and Abrams is likely to direct a few episodes.

"The Nix" is about a hippie-era mother who makes national news when she throws rocks at a conservative governor. Her estranged son, a middling professor and wannabe writer, decides to capitalize on the circus by writing a tell-all biography savaging his mother. But as Samuel tries to track her down and as he learns more about her history, he begins to rethink everything he thought he knew about her.

The novel was released to smashing reviews. The New York Times called it "the love child of Thomas Pynchon and David Foster Wallace." Naturally, Streep would play the mother. No word yet on whom might play Samuel.

Streep is getting Oscar buzz (again) for "Florence Foster Jenkins," while Abrams mostly recently helmed "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
