'Glee' Star Mark Salling's Death Officially Ruled a Suicide
The Los Angeles County Coroner's office has released new details on "Glee" star died by suicide.
Salling's death was reported as a likely suicide on Jan. 30. The 35-year-old actor had been found dead near his home in Sunland, California, and police waited for an autopsy before confirming his cause of death. On Thursday, LA County Coroner Assistant Chief Ed Winter told People that Salling's death was ruled a suicide and that he died of asphyxia by hanging.
The actor's suicide came one month before he was due to be sentenced for possession of child pornography, which he had pleaded guilty to in October. Court documents indicate that he had content showing the abuse of children as young as 3. He was expected to serve a sentence between four and seven years, as well as have to register as a sex offender. His lawyer Michael Proctor said in a statement that Salling had been "doing his best to atone for some serious mistakes and errors of judgment."
Salling is survived by his mother, father, and brother.
